Caunton Engineering supplied the main and secondary structural steelwork to main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland for a new 310,000 sq. ft. temperature-controlled distribution centre for integrated fresh food company AM Fresh at Alconbury near Huntingdon. Designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of very good, the warehouse has a structural multi-span portal frame. The development also includes three-storey offices and a two-storey plant/workshop.

Caunton designed, fabricated and erected over 1000tonnes of structural steelwork for the project - the architect is Arctica and consulting engineer BSP Consulting. The distribution centre is on the 1,425-acre Alconbury Weald site – a major new community and enterprise zone being built in phases which will eventually feature thousands of new homes, along with commercial and industrial developments, community facilities, schools, local and district shopping centres, and sports and leisure spaces. It is
being masterminded by Urban & Civic.
