Corporate Social Responsibility Policy

Caunton Engineering recognises that the company has a major responsibility to the community and the environment in which it operates, and to the people it employs. This responsibility includes making a positive impact on the Moorgreen area in which it is located. It also includes optimising the health and safety, and the skills and expertise, of the people the company employs.

Specific areas of positive Corporate Social Responsibility are -

1. Community developments

We collaborate with local schools and universities providing visits, work experience, summer placements and sponsorship of undergraduates.

We have had a positive impact on the economy of our region as a whole for some considerable time by leading the development of the former Moorgreen Colliery site which is now a thriving Industrial park and where Caunton's manufacturing works are located. We have worked closely with the local council in order to drive forward the local regeneration programme whilst at the same time preserving the history of the local area. Since 1990 our total investment for our group companies in land and buildings on the Moorgreen site totals well over £13m.

5. The recruitment and training of employees

In 2004, the Caunton Academy was established to address the industry's skills shortage. All apprentices are recruited locally and we aim to recruit five apprentices on an annual basis. Right from the start, the academy proved to be highly successful and led to its being recognised as an accredited Training Centre from August 2008 by the UK's leading awarding body for National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) – EAL. Within the Academy our apprentices work towards achieving an advanced apprenticeship in fabrication and welding.

Quality Assurance

QA procedures are in place for all activities from initial enquiry, through to materials procurement, fabrication and erection. Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

Caunton Engineering as a company respects human rights and will not support or deal with any business we know that is involved in slavery or human trafficking.

Our business of designing, manufacturing and erecting structural steelwork is based consistently on lawful and ethical values. The majority of our materials originate from the UK and Europe where we believe there is low risk. We are enquiring officially of our suppliers to ensure that they too accede to the Modern Slavery Act. We are adopting a risk based approach to this exercise and are not currently undertaking any specific training in relation to these matters.

Our recruitment processes are transparent and reviewed regularly and we have robust procedures for vetting new employees, and ensuring we are able to confirm their identities.

If we discover, or are made aware, that we have been associated with human rights violations, including any acts of modern day slavery and human trafficking in the supply chain, we will take steps to rectify the situation, taking account of the rights of those whose rights are being violated.

This statement will be reviewed annually unless circumstances dictate it should be reviewed and/or renewed more frequently.
