Undergraduate and Graduate Training

Graduate Training

Being a dedicated Investor in People Caunton recognises the importance of bringing graduates in to our team and each year we aim to recruit new graduates into various business disciplines.

The company is client focused and employs design and build business units, which include engineering teams especially, versed in particular skills of design and build. A civil engineer graduate can learn these skills working within the business and progress gradually to contribute meaningfully towards the fulfilment of the company's goals. With placement in one of the design and build units, a graduate will learn to apply engineering concepts using the latest analysis software and package to create a commercially viable frame design. Overall value engineering is paramount and particular knowledge can lead to programme acceleration and cost reduction, which of course is of particular benefit to our clients.

The undergraduate and graduate programmes are supervised and mentored by a Chartered Civil Engineer and is approved by the Institution of Civil Engineers which thereby gives the opportunity to work towards chartered membership of the ICE or IStructE.

On joining the Caunton Group, a graduate firstly learns about the business by completing an in-house training programme that covers all the processes in the company. Once complete, the graduate is then assigned to one of the Design and Build units where he/she will begin to familiarise with the Caunton Group design philosophy. Graduates can expect to be working on live projects within a few months. Each graduate also attends internal and external training courses and seminars to enhance their knowledge.

Progression of each graduate is not prescriptive, although the transition from graduate engineer to structural engineer tends to be around 3 to 5 years. Throughout this time, each graduate is regularly reviewed to ensure thorough development to a practical engineer with both commercial and contractual awareness.

If you are a Civil BEng or MEng undergraduate, have good communication skills, can work well in a team and feel capable of contributing to Caunton's established reputation for quality and service then please contact our Human Resources Department
