Caunton Engineering have been pleased to supply the structural steelwork for the Co-op Regional Distribution Centre at Symmetry Park, Biggleswade for main contractor Winvic Construction. In a recent press article, New Steel Construction reported that a series of individually-designed portal frames has proven to be the most cost-efficient solution for a major Co-op distribution centre. In fact the internal layout of the building, and its different uses, meant Caunton Engineering had to design 18 separate portal frames for the building, in order to create the most efficient design.

A major structural component of the project was a substantial element of secondary steelwork - staircases and when required the supporting tower steelwork, access bridges, steel ladders, hand railing and flooring, inter alia. The contract for this was placed with Caunton’s Secondary Steelwork Division. This of course complemented Caunton’s contract for the main frame most efficiently and successfully.
