Caunton Engineering supplied and erected the structural steelwork for the Kop Stand at Notts County FC’s Meadow Lane ground, in the early 80’s. The most interesting technical feature of the project was the space frame roof structure. This three-dimensional structure was to be a comprehensive covering not only for the spectator terracing but a sports hall directly behind, which now houses squash courts.

The CUBIC space frame system was the one selected by the architect Design Associates. This is a 'true' space frame that was developed during the late 1970s by Leszek Kubik and his son Leslie. It is formed from rigid-jointed modules with no diagonal web members.

The CUBIC Space Frame system was first used for re-roofing a rehearsal theatre 12 m x 20 m at nearby Nottingham Trent University in 1979. It has since been used successfully to roof many building types including factory units and supermarkets in particular where the absence of bracing members has allowed installation of plant, services and even offices within the depth of the space frame.
