Marking 2024 National Apprenticeship Week - Caunton Engineering Apprentice, Matthew Jameson, describes his own successful experience
As part of National Apprenticeship we will be showcasing our current young employees undertaking apprenticeships with Caunton Engineering.
Today, we are showcasing Matthew Jameson, an apprentice estimator. Matthew joined Caunton in 2014 as an apprentice fabricator and welder.
Commenting on his experience, Matthew said: "Caunton's 3 year apprenticeship programme gave me an entrance into the working world. It allowed me to have 3 years of on the job learning alongside highly experienced workers, who shared and taught me their years' worth of knowledge, while also gaining myself a level 3 qualification and earning a wage.
Completing this apprenticeship set the foundation for my career in engineering and has produced some amazing opportunities for me ever since. It has allowed me to work my way up and into a new role in Caunton's Estimating Department. I have now started a level 4 apprenticeship as a Quantity Surveying Technician which will gain me a HNC in Construction Management. Again, this apprenticeship allows me to learn and work on the job, alongside experienced team members in a new field within the industry. Apprenticeships have been a key player for me, I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking to learn on the job, gain qualification and earn a wage."
