Connor Wrenn joined Caunton Engineering as an apprentice in Fabrication and Welding in 2010 and successfully completed an advanced apprenticeship in fabrication and welding. He now continues to progress within the business as an apprentice in Contract Management.
Connor tells us why he chose a career in engineering and what has inspired him to become a Contracts Manager.
“I joined the company as an Apprentice in Fabrication and Welding in September 2010 having studied engineering at school.
From a very young age, I was a very hands on type of person who enjoyed constructing anything from fixing cars to helping with carpentry on the weekends with my grandad. Combined with always willing to take on a challenge which saw me complete a two week work experience within metal fabrication that confirmed this was the industry for me. I became fascinated with how all interlinking parties from drawings to production to site delivery worked collaboratively. Alongside many others, learning on the job was always seen as the best route within my family as it was felt that it installs a great base of experience before you actually qualify. Therefore, carrying out a level 3 NVQ provided me with a better understanding on how elements must work in conjunction to work efficiently. This lead to me inviting the challenge of training to become a contracts manager as the process of organising and arranging different tasks for various projects, all whilst maintaining programme can be rewarding.
