Building work has started on The Co-operative Group’s new £20m regional distribution centre in Avonmouth. Caunton Engineering are supplying the steelwork for this 40,482 sq. metre depot, expected to open next year, at Cabot Park on Poplar Way. Caunton are working for major contractor Volker Fitzpatrick and are contracted for the design and supply of over 1500te of steelwork.
Statistically this massive warehouse will be 17m high x 280m long x 132m wide comprising 35 – 8m Bays and 3 - 44m Portal spans together with 2 appendages – an Energy centre and an Operations Office
Specifically the warehouse incorporates 16,400sqm of Cold Storage and 20,560sqm available as a racking facility for non-perishable goods. The Group will deliver around 1.4 million cases each week to about 450 Co-operative stores in the South West and South Wales.
