Caunton Engineering were most pleased to have been awarded the contract by main contractor Readie Construction for the structural main and secondary steelwork for a major warehouse structure in Burton. The building is located on the St Modwen Park in Burton, which is a 50-acre industrial & distribution site with outline planning consent for up to 1m sq. ft. This is a prominent site providing direct access to the A38 which links Birmingham to Derby and the North.

The building itself, requiring over 1200te of steelwork, is a four-span propped portal frame. The overall width is 130m and the length is 190m. The height to eaves is 15m with a 1.5° roof pitch. The structure also includes a gantry, an internal office and two canopies.

The building is programmed to be a cold store, therefore clad with thick composite panels. This meant that the deflection criteria was a critical factor for the Caunton Technical team who designed the steelwork.

The photograph shows the erection of the steelwork well under way.
