Caunton Engineering has been historically very active in the power generation industry and seeks further involvement

This industry is developing many imaginative solutions to generating electricity - now Net Zero has sounded the death knell for coal-powered stations. Listed below are some of these operations and an example of each Project where Caunton has been contributing the structural steelwork.

• Wind Power - In Blyth, Northumberland, Caunton Engineering is supplying the structural steelwork for a new major facility, capable of production of high voltage and extended length inter-array cables. These will be supplied for the renewable energy sector, aiding the UK Government's target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. For further information click here .

• Energy from Waste - Caunton Engineering supplied the structural steelwork for a major Energy Recovery Facility for main contractor Taylor Woodrow Construction. North London Waste Authority (NLW) are developing the Edmonton EcoPark site in Enfield, London. The facility is expected to cater for up to 700,000 tonnes of residual waste from the seven north London boroughs. Currently the central part of the site is an Energy from Waste plant, which is nearing the end of its operational life. The North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP) aims to replace this with a new and substantially more efficient Energy Recovery Facility, which will generate up to 70 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 127,000 homes as well as providing heat to a local heat network. • Gasification - Caunton Engineering have supplied and erected the structural steelwork for a new Bio Power facility by Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC). This 240,000 tonnes capacity gasification facility in Hooton, Cheshire, will be fuelled by 'locally sourced waste', using 240,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) each year. It is expected to generate more than 200GWh of electricity annually. For further information click here .

• Renewables - Working on behalf of main contractor Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC), Caunton Engineering supplied and erected 820 tonnes for this project. Known as the Kent Renewable Energy Plant, this facility will have a capacity of 27.8MW and will be fired primarily with woodchip sourced locally in the UK. For further information click here .

• Solar Energy - Caunton Engineering supplied the structural steelwork for a major Energy Recovery Facility for main contractor, Taylor Woodrow Construction, see 'Energy from Waste' above. An array of solar panels on the roof of the new recycling centre in Edmonton is said to now be the largest of its kind in North London. North London Waste Authority (NLWA) confirmed that the 2,235 solar panels at Edmonton EcoPark will provide electricity equivalent to powering 300 homes yearly. For further information click here .

• Nuclear Energy - Caunton contributed in the construction of EDF Energy's Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset. The company provided a structural frame for a factory building at Bristol Port, Avonmouth, which will be used to manufacture precast concrete tunnel segments. For further information click here .
