Caunton Engineering supplied the steelwork to extend the offices of McCann-Erickson, the world's largest communications agency - whose skills include advertising, brand creation and public relations. McCann-Erickson are based in the most attractive of old mansion houses, Bonis Hall, near Macclesfield and expanding successfully as an organisation such that an office extension is now required.

Bonis Hall is a 16th century building and Grade II listed. An extension in such circumstances required particular sensitivity and architect Bowker Sadler have designed this most imaginative elliptically shaped structure. Coupled with the stringent needs for accuracy such a shape demands, Caunton were most conscious that building off a concrete core also introduces attendant tolerance problems. Fabrication was therefore of the highest order. Furthermore, Caunton had to accommodate varying roof slopes, curved channels and beams, and Slimflor ASB cambered first floor beams, so steelwork erection was far from simple.

Consulting Engineer for this delightful project is Sinclair Knight Merz and main contractor is Bowmer and Kirkland.
