Caunton supplied the steelwork for a new warehouse complex in Warrington titled Project Pepe. Caunton designed, fabricated and erected over 1100te of structural steelwork for main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland. The structure comprises a 5 span portal frame 152.5m wide, 132m long with typical 7.75m bays with a minimum clear height of 10.0m to the underside of haunch. The warehouse contains a mezzanine located at the gable end of the structure and there is also a stand-alone office structure.

The 24.5m span portal (injection bay) supports two large gantry cranes (1 No. 80 tonne and 1 No. non simultaneous 80+40 tonne). A column in line with the crane gantry beam has been incorporated to transfer all vertical crane loads to the foundations. One line of crane beams has these supporting columns at 10.333m centres, resulting in substantial 914x419UB crane beams weighing 3.5T each. The adjacent 32.0m span portals (the warehouse) are HIT and triple MISS with 31m clear span between valley columns.

The development itself is located in the Omega Regeneration Scheme, a joint venture between Miller and Royal Bank of Scotland-owned KUC Properties, have commissioned this 200,000 sq. ft. warehouse with a separate 20,000 sq. ft. of offices.

Caunton are pleased to be working on this same major development site, Omega, as when supplying the steelwork for the new Travis Perkins warehouse.
