Swansea University undertook a major campus redevelopment which created a world-leading research, innovation and education complex. St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, appointed VINCI Construction UK to deliver the first phase of the new £450m Science and Innovation Campus. Vinci subcontracted the design, supply and erection of steelwork for five of the buildings to Caunton, namely

• Manufacturing Facility co-locating industry and College of Engineering research, which will house labs for disciplines ranging from nano-technology to sport sciences as well as state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
• Teaching and research facilities for the College of Engineering and Schools of Business and Economics.
• Student facilities, particularly the Great Hall
• Learning & Resource Centre, library and associated resource facilities.
• Swansea Materials and Research Testing (SMaRT) - materials testing centre to include testing for Rolls- Royce of new and existing materials that are used in the aerospace and aero engine industries, together with the data centre for the campus.

The contract included construction of a 65,000 square metre development on the shore front of Swansea Bay with the aim of delivering world-leading research, innovation and education facilities to the city and the surrounding community and is located on a brownfield post-industrial site in Swansea Bay.

As part of the increased use of cloud computing services, data centers like this provide businesses with scalable, reliable and resilient IT resources to give more efficient customer facing services and to ensure the continuity of their businesses.
