Caunton supplied and erected the steelwork and metal decking for a new Parcel Hub for main contractor Winvic Construction. The client is DPD UK, part of La Poste’s GeoPost Group and the property developer is Goodman.

Almost 2300te of steelwork for a massive 460 metre long building in Hinckley, which will be known as Hub 4. The Hinckley site was chosen because of its proximity to motorway links to the whole of the UK, and because there is more scope for future expansion than in Smethwick, where DPD UK has its three other hubs.

Caunton will be in fact supplying steelwork for five buildings in all – the Main Hub, VMU, Main Gatehouse, Garage/Tyre Store/Salt Barn and Steam Prep. The site is expected to be fully operational in 2015, creating as many as 1,000 full-time jobs in the process.

The client claims that the planned facility will be the largest parcel hub of its kind, capable of handling 70,000 parcels each hour. Quite some operation.
