Caunton are supplying the steelwork for a major new Academy in Peterborough. Despite the cancellation of the Building Schools for the Future programme, Peterborough City Council agreed to fund the re-build of the Nene Park Academy. In the event, on 31 August 2011 Orton Longueville School closed and reopened on 1 September 2011 as Nene Park Academy. A different uniform is worn by the students now in fact.

Building work is now well underway on the £14.25 million revamp of the academy site school site. Main Contractor, Kier Construction (East Midlands), commenced on site in January 2012. The buildings will be open to staff and pupils for September 2013. This refurbishment includes new classrooms, a grass amphitheatre and new dining facilities. Caunton’s steelwork, nearly 400 tonnes, comprises a Beam & Column framework, 26 bays long, of equal parts of two and three storey height. This lies adjacent to the existing School buildings. However a 5 metre foot bridge is programed to be installed at Easter which will link the existing with the new buildings. Erection well under way is shown on the photograph. Caunton designed the steelwork connections with the main framework design by Ramboll UK’s Cambridge office.
