Caunton Engineering constructed the steelwork for a new Sainsbury’s superstore in Newcastle under Lyme.
The retail store is built on the former Newcastle under Lyme College site, with the college moving to a brand new, £60 million campus a mile or so away.
Coincidentally this is the second Caunton contract this year where an educational establishment has moved to accommodate a new retail store. The earlier project is Tesco at Walsall – see website news June 2010. Despite the disruption this can only benefit the education provision that our young people will enjoy.
Caunton’s contract with main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland required nearly 600te of steelwork mainly portal framing, and designed by Caunton under a D&B contract. Caunton are fast becoming leaders in the field of retail D&B contracting.
Yet another Sainsbury’s store contract to add to an already long list completed by Caunton for this high street giant.
