The company is working for nationally-renowned Clegg Food Projects, which provides turnkey solutions for major food operations all over the UK. Clegg and Caunton have been working together on the construction of the new 80,000 sq.ft Greggs bakery in Long Benton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which will extend their existing facility and increase production capacity. In the event, Caunton erected over 250te of steelwork which included latticed roof members – see photograph.
The project is the latest in a long line of large-scale projects the Clegg has carried out for Greggs. Quite a long line for Caunton too – please read Caunton Website News item for 4 March 2007 and 23 March 2008 for details of former Greggs projects undertaken by Caunton.
The new Gosforth Factory close to the first ever Greggs shop in Gosforth High Street, will support the company’s rapid growth as it plans to expand its chain of 1,400 shops around the UK by a further 600 sites over the next few years. Caunton congratulates Greggs on satisfying the nation’s tastes so successfully.
