Caunton Engineering supplied the structural framework for the new Leicester Grammar School. Early in 2007 the Leicester Grammar School Trustees announced that they had completed an agreement with Land Securities Trillium for the construction funding and long term investment of the relocation of Leicester Grammar School and Leicester Grammar Junior School to Mount Farm, Great Glen.

Main contractor Norwest Holst is no stranger to successful PFI Schools Projects locally and is responsible for this prestige development. Norwest’s CV includes Doncaster and Derby Schools PFI projects -steelwork again by Caunton.
The new facility will accommodate the main school as well as the junior school and will incorporate first class academic and sporting facilities on one site. Caunton are supplying over 800te of steelwork (plus floor decking and thru deck studding, plus staircases) which are located in three main areas - a two-storey academic block, a two-storey pavilion and sports complex with swimming pool, and a two-storey aerobics area.

The existing sites were located in the centre of Leicester in close proximity to the Cathedral with the Junior School site in Evington. Land Securities worked with Leicester Grammar School to maximise the value of these sites. Project Director Steven Waterhouse commented “Caunton are most pleased to be playing a significant role in such an imaginative programme aimed at improving the educational infrastructure of Leicester”.
