Facility of the future - the Sherborne Resource Centre - a structure more complicated than it looks

Caunton Engineering’s web site news of 20 April 2022 describes how the company have supplied the framing steelwork to main contractor Clegg Construction for what has been described in the press as a facility of the future. The Sherbourne Resource Centre in Coventry is a state of the art materials recycling facility (MRF) and said to be the first to use Artificial Intelligence (AI).

With respect to the structural steelwork design, the Sherbourne Resource Centre is a good example of something which may look to be a straightforward and utility structure, when in fact the truth is the opposite. There were plenty of design challenges to be addressed resulting in a structure that demonstrates thoughtful best practice. David Brown of the SCI comments on the structural solution in the April New Steel Construction, and his comments may be accessed using the following link.
