Ramboll Engineers making sparks fly at Caunton

Six senior engineers from major consulting engineer Ramboll (formerly Whitby Bird) attended a training session at Caunton. The aim was to introduce the engineers to the particular routines and skills of steelwork contracting.

The training course included an introduction to 3D modelling in the drawing office, and to the Caunton Knowledge Management systems. This was followed by an inspection of fabrication methods and corrosion protection routines. Finally in order for the engineers to get hands-on experience of fabricating steelwork, they spent time in the Caunton Academy learning welding techniques. The photograph shows them fully kitted-up with Cameron Harris the Academy Manager standing middle/front.

This is a course run by Caunton to familiarise consulting engineers with steelwork procedures. As a result, when they themselves come to design steelwork structures they can better introduce good practice, and anticipate possible problems and eradicate them wherever possible.
Caunton believes that the more the whole construction supply chain members understand each others' ways and methods the more efficient the industry will become.
