Interserve representatives visit to Caunton

Caunton were delighted to welcome recently a large party of engineers, surveyors and site managers from major contractor Interserve to their works in Nottingham. Caunton have regularly been working for Interserve on their projects over the years – most recently a major car park structure in Loughborough (see web news 10th May) and Kingswood School at Corby (see web news 1st October). During the morning the party of seventeen were introduced to Caunton’s just-in-time manufacturing methods, to the 3D modelling techniques and to the knowledge management systems in place at Caunton.

Seven of the party stayed on after lunch to take part in welding training in Caunton’s Academy. The aim was to show at first hand how welding is carried out, and the participants laid a substantial amount of weld throughout the afternoon. It was further explained and illustrated when it is best to introduce welding into the construction design process and when to use the particular forms of welding – butt, fillet etc.

A most successful day when representatives of a top main contractor learnt a little more of how a member of his supply chain operates. Caunton believe this can only help make the construction process more efficient in the long run. In fact, Caunton are delighted to be working for Interserve at the moment on a production facility and a three storey office block at Prospect Way at Daventry and will be starting on site in December.
