Caunton display their Lean Manufacture methods to respected visitors

Staff and students of Leicester’s De Montfort University visited Caunton Engineering recently. The visitors –all mature students and attending on day-release, are studying for degrees in Lean Manufacture and were keen to learn how Caunton operates its Just-in-Time regime in particular. The photo shows Caunton MD Simon Bingham (left) posing with the visitors alongside one of Caunton’s brand new Side Loaders. The machines are part of “the team” that ensures turnaround of steelwork in just 24 hours – from receipt of steel from outside sources, then preparation, fabrication, painting and loading again. It all looked “very lean” to the Students, they were to say! The visitors have “day jobs” with Rolls-Royce, Caterpillar and Lear. Caunton were delighted and flattered to be able to share their expertise with representatives of such world leading companies.

Graham Morris, delegation leader and Rolls-Royce’s Business Improvement Manager, said, "We are most impressed with Caunton's enthusiastic attitude and expertise. As part of our Lean Engineering degree, we have visited several manufacturing units and we rate Caunton very highly, in fact amongst the best".
